People in Ecuador like to have a good time.

At discotheques and parties, people start to dance right away. Salsa lessons, which are not expensive, are a good idea. Don't be shy, people here don't care if you dance well, just that you try.

There are many tourist bars in the larger cities such as Quito. Music here is a mix of latin pop, salsa and American songs. You can also check out ones that are most often frequented by locals. Here, the music focus is salsa, merengue, cumbia and other types of latin music. Karaoke bars are very popular.

Movies are expensive by Ecuadorian standards but cheap by North American or European standards. It costs approximately $4 (2004/05), and there are cheaper prices one day of the week. Children's movies are often dubbed while adult movies will likely be English with Spanish subtitles.

Books are expensive here, especially English language ones. The best bookstore for Français language books in Quito is Libri Mundi. There are some used bookstores and also places to trade them.
